We will study the establishment of West-European leadership after the disintegration of Germany as a result of the Thirty Years’ War and the Peace of Westphalia in 1648. The Dutch, English, and particularly the French, became the principal actors and their cultures in Western Europe had a dominant impact on the rest of the continent and the world.
