This course covers the history of opera, from its beginnings in Renaissance Italy around the year 1600 up to the 21st century.  The class will cover Baroque opera (Monteverdi and Handel, for example), opera in the Classical age (think Mozart), the great operas of the Romantic age (with the great composers from Italy, France, Germany and Russia, including Rossini, Bellini, Donizetti, Verdi, Gounod, Bizet, Massenet, Wagner, Tchaikovsky and Mussorgsky), 20th century opera (Strauss, Puccini, Poulenc, Prokofiev, and American composers such as Gershwin and Menotti) and even 21st century opera.  The course will include plenty of video excerpts from great performances.

Class Fee:  $30
