DESCRIPTION

3 week class recorded Summer 2022

This quarter we’ll review the major developments in the Russo-Ukrainian War that began on February 24th.  At present, it’s difficult to predict the course content.  Hopefully we’ll be analyzing the peace process and the way sticky issues like war crimes, repatriation of refugees and territorial adjustments were resolved.  Unfortunately, it’s more likely that the War will still be going on.  In that case, we’ll examine the status of negotiations, the cohesiveness of the NATO alliance, the impact of on-going sanctions on Russia, China’s actions in support of Russia and the military situation on the ground.

Instructor: Carol McCavitt has been teaching for SPARK since 2009.  Before moving to Kansas City, Carol was a high school teacher on Long Island, where she taught Advanced Placement European History for 20 ears.  Educated as an undergraduate at SUNY at Stony Brook, Carol completed her Master’s Degree at Queens College in NYC and did her doctoral work at Carnegie-Mellon University in Pittsburgh.
