On January 20, 1949, Harry Truman was sworn in as President, having been elected the previous November in his own right. That date initiated his “Second Term” as President of the U.S.A. In our previous series we explored the period from his inauguration up through the first few months of the Korean Conflict (June to October of 1950). This series will explore that portion of Truman’s “Second Term” as President from late summer of 1950 to his departure from office in January of 1953.
Topics we’ll explore in this series: Truman’s seizure of the railroads; the “Korean Conflict” beginning with October of 1950 through the end of Truman’s presidency; Puerto Rican Nationalist’s assassination attempt; Truman’s dismissal of General Douglas MacArthur as Supreme Commander of the U.N. forces in Korea; the spying trial of Julius and Ethel Rosenberg; Truman’s attempted nationalization of the Steel Industry; the reconstruction of the White House; the election of 1952 and Truman’s departure from office and return to civilian life in Independence, Missouri.
Come join us as we (hopefully) conclude our study of the Presidency of Harry S. Truman, “The Man from Independence”.

Class Fee: $30
