Using SPARK Smart Classroom

If my class has a Zoom component, my presentation MUST be on a USB drive in PowerPoint format to effectively use the Smart Classroom technology.

In-Person Class Technology

If I intend to use my personal device to project on the classroom screen during my class, I will ensure that I have an HDMI port on my device or will ensure that I bring my own adaptor that will connect my device to an HDMI cable.

In-Person Class Technology No Recording

Using a Zoom Component

If my class has a Zoom component, SPARK will be responsible for setting up the Zoom classroom. I will be required to wear a lavalier microphone and stay in the "camera zone" so those attending via Zoom can hear and see me. I will repeat questions asked by those in the classroom before answering so that we can ensure that the Zoomies have context for my answer. If I am teaching in a different location and connecting via Zoom, SPARK will contact me with the Zoom Link and to discuss needed considerations.

Recording of Zoom Classes

If my class has a Zoom component, SPARK will record the class and make it available only to those who have enrolled in the class via an unlisted YouTube link. If I do not want my class recorded, I must email SPARK@umkc.edu immediately after submitting this form so that it can be correctly listed in the catalog. This option is not available for in-person only classes.

Class Marketing

SPARK will market my class online, through email and by mailing a catalog using USPS, including choosing a copyright free photo. I am encouraged to promote my class in my circle of influence with the understanding that everyone taking a SPARK class, including mine, must pay the class fee and the membership fee.

Pictures take during class

Occasionally, SPARK photographs activities during class times, which may include images of instructors and/or participants. I consent to SPARK’S use of such photographs for publicity or program promotion.

Class Handouts distribution to participants

If I have handouts for my class participants, SPARK will duplicate them and distribute to those in-person and those participating via Zoom if applicable.

I will submit handouts a minimum of two (2) business days prior to the class to LDWilliams@umkc.edu in time for SPARK to duplicate them and distribute to those in-person and those participating via Zoom if applicable. If I can not email the handouts, I will bring them in printed form to the SPARK office one (1) week prior to the class in which they are used.

I understand that SPARK's Responsibilities to me include:

Classroom space will be provided to accommodate all in-person attendees.

SPARK will set up and distribute the link to a Zoom Classroom, if one is needed, to those enrolled in the class. If I am teaching from another location, this information will be sent to me.

An enrollment roster will be prepared and attendance taken.

A Guest Parking Pass allowing me to park in the UMKC lot will be emailed to me from the UMKC Parking department prior to my first class when possible. Physical Guest Parking Passes will be given to me for the remainder of my sessions. NOTE - Current UMKC students and employees are not eligible to use Guest Parking Passes.

Independent Contractor Status

SPARK and I acknowledge and agree that teaching for SPARK does not make me a University of Missouri - Kansas City nor a SPARK employee. I am acting as an independent contractor. Note – Current SPARK or UMKC (University of Missouri Kansas City) employees acknowledge that teaching for SPARK is outside of their regular duties, and are responsible for following any guidelines set forth by their supervisor.

If I have chosen the option of receiving an honorarium check, I understand that a W-9 must be submitted to SPARK prior the that check being issued. SPARK will issue 1099s to those individuals whose total honorariums for the calendar year meet the threshold required by the IRS.
