Montgall Avenue and the Remarkable Men and Women Who Lived There with Margie Carr
Three weeks – June 5, 12 and 26 | 10 am – Noon | In Person at 4747 Troost, Room 22B, KCMO or Online | 30
In this class, students will learn about some of Kansas City’s most important leaders: the men and women who lived on one block of Montgall Avenue throughout the 20th Century. These leaders built and ran the institutions that served Kansas City’s Black citizens during the Jim Crow era. Early leaders saw the rise of segregation in the City, and later residents experienced the impact as Jim Crow was replaced with redlining, and we explore some of the impact those policies had on Montgall Avenue.
Margie Carr – Author of a book on the subject, with a master’s degree in Museum Science and a Ph.D. in Economic Education.
