Religion in American History, Part 2 with Alan Perry

Tues (Sept 17–Oct 22) in-person at 4825 Troost, Room 112, Kansas City, MO 64110 or online via a private Zoom link. After briefly reviewing the events covered in the first course, we’ll discuss the religious and political results of the Seven Years (French & Indian) War 1756-1763. The balance of the course will deal with the role of Christianity, and other faiths, from the American Revolution through the nearly 2 ½ centuries since then.

Oct 15 at 1:30pm - My Journey to CEO at EarlystART with June McDaniel (KC Gems last 60 to 120 minutes depending on topic and presenter.)            Hear June’s story of empowerment and success from growing up in the inner city of KCMO, in group and foster homes, to her eventual position at EarlystART.  After she “realized my zip code was not an indicator of my future”, she began following her passion to serve children aging out of the foster care system and work with early childhood education.

Mon (Sept 16–Oct 21) and Wed (Sept 18–Oct 23) from 10–11 am in-person only This safe, effective exercise program is good for balance and fall prevention.   This class meets twice weekly.  Participants are encouraged to wear comfortable clothing.  Adaptations will be made for those with mobility issues.

What was this war and why did it happen? Did it just begin, out of the blue, on 9/11? How was it fought? These are questions we will address in this course. Let’s Play Mah Jongg! with Carol Wells

Fridays, September 20–October 25 from 10 am–Noon (in-person only) All are welcome to our on-going Mah Jongg game gathering! We have an instructor for those of you who have never played before. Get a refresher on the mechanics, or share in the fun with other SPARK members. Mah Jongg consists of 152 carved tiles that are divided into three suits: Dots, Bamboos and Chinese Characters (or Craks). The version of Mah Jongg we play has games created by the National Mah Jongg League in New York and are changed annually. Carol Wells - Mah Jongg instructor has taught at SPARK since 2021 and played for more than 12 years.

Cost: no cost to enroll.  Members are responsible for the cost of their lunch. To participate in the Eat Out club, you must have a current SPARK membership.
