This class is in a HYBRID format –  participate in-person or on Zoom.

Learn about many little-known events during the Civil War that occurred in Missouri and Kansas.

Did you know Ulysses S. Grant had his first combat experience in Missouri?
Did you know there were battles fought in the town squares of Independence and Lone Jack?
Did you know a man from St. Louis built the war ships that helped win control of the Mississippi River?
Did you know the Confederacy launched several cavalry raids into Missouri during the war?
Did you know the Union authorities ordered thousands of civilian Missourians from their homes in response to Quantrill’s burning of Lawrence?
Did you know a Kansas battalion of African Americans was the first to fight in combat during the war?
Did you know enslaved African Americans in Missouri were set free ten months before the rest of the country?
